New Videos - April 2021 Part Two!

Sorry for the delay!!  The second half of April got very busy for me, so I ended not having much to share.  Still, I was able to find some new stuff worth rocking out to.  Let's get into it!

Kicking off with Sabaton might be cheating, but I can't deny their charm and grandeur.  This time, digging into Swedish military history again, and borrowing a melody from a classic Christian hymn, they provide another epic number about bravery and glory.  Not exactly new territory for the band, but when it's this good, it doesn't matter.

Now here's a new group!  Building off the template of bands like Judas Priest, Saxon, and Accept, Coronary have a very no-nonsense, classic metal sound.  This one is energetic, with a great rock 'n' roll attitude, and a vocalist that sounds like Rick Altzi from Herman Frank's band.  Solid stuff!

Well, this is some high energy, double-kicking power metal!  I admit I'm not very familiar with Vexillium, but I like the folky elements they've weaved into their sound.  The layered vocals on the chorus is a nice epic touch, and the solos are solid as well. 

An interesting (and long) piece from a band I had heard a few times before.  This prog metal group from Lebanon is going for a lighter, dreamier tone.  Instead of technical playing, it's more on the emotional side of the genre, much like early Dream Theater or even Evergrey.  Worth a listen, if you have the time.

Yup, these guys again.  This one is a little more mellow, coming across as a kind of mid-tempo rock anthem that makes me think of bands like Lynyrd Skynyrd or Aerosmith.  It's rather uplifting compared to some of their earlier singles, but they still have the crunch when they need it.

Sonic Haven is a new heavy/power metal group from Germany, they certainly aren't new to the genre.  Herbie Langhans is fresh off of his Firewind debut from last year, and sounds great here, backed by a band full of experience.  Just off this track alone, I expect a lot of high energy riffing and double-kicking drive.

New Videos - July 2020!

Well, July is just as hot as June, and I'm not just talking about the temperature!  I've found another great handful of videos full of epic melodies and catchy choruses.  Hopefully, these will help you deal with the summer heat, or at the very least, give you reason for why you're sweating so much!  Headbanging is hard work, you know!

Why do I always keep forgetting about Lovebites?  This is another high-speed monster from the Japanese power metal outfit I discovered at the end of 2018.  The vocals are sung in English, so they take some getting used to, but the shredding and the powerful rhythms are huge, reminiscent of DragonForce or some of Sonata Arctica's faster songs.

One Desire does it again!  Their style of poppy 80s rock is just massive, full of catch melodies and the epic vocals from André Linman soaring over everything.  This album needs to get to the top of my priority list yesterday!

This is different!  Deep Purple, best known for hard rock classics in the early 70s, has a new album coming out, and this shows a spacier side to them.  Granted, maybe it's because Don Airey pulled out some hammonds for this one, but it really does feel like a song from another time.

Falconer is a name I've seen around, but never really listened to.  Fortunately, they have a new album, but unfortunately, the band is now breaking up after this release.  Still, this promises the same epic folk/power metal fusion the band has been known for all these years.

So John Payne was the singer for Asia after Wetton left but before the band reunited in 2006 with the original lineup.  Since then, Payne has been kicking around, and his latest group is the Dukes of the Orient, which has a very strong British 80s AOR vibe, like Asia and The Alan Parsons Project.  This one is a neat little song for their second album, as they carry on their sound.

Apparently, Moonlight Haze has already released a second album!  Their take on symphonic metal is very poppy and fun, with just a dash of mystery, and this song is full of the same energy.  I'm seriously having a hard time keeping up with all of these releases!

New Videos - February 2019 Part 2!

The world of rock doesn't sleep cuz I've got more videos for ya!  Time for another mix of what's coming out!

Let's start off this list with some nice and crunchy AOR.  Hardline has been around the block for some time, so they know how to make some melodic hooks.  You might want to "Take a Chance" on this one.  (Sorry, I couldn't resist.)

We got another video from TÝR full of epic folk metal.  Can I say that I really like Gunnar's vocals?  He really brings the epicness to the music in a way no other band does!  Oh, and playing in cave is pretty cool, too.

Talk about 80s AOR!  This doesn't even sound new, and I mean that in a good way!  I guess this is a comeback of some kind for this band, but I get massive Journey and Asia vibes.  This sounds amazing!

Oh, look who's back!  Here we get some more solid epic space opera power metal that Iron Savior is known for.  With a fist-pumping chorus and some great riffing, it might be more of the same, but that's not a bad thing at all!

Visigoth keep things old-school.  Like brothers-in-arms Manowar, Omen, and Manilla Road, we have here some classic traditional metal full of fantasy and bluster.  Singer Jake Rogers really has a great voice for this kind of stuff!

Let's close this one out with another video from Beast in Black.  They really have forged their own sound, sitting somewhere between power metal and synthwave!  In any case, here's one more dose of that 80s cheese turned up to 11!

New Videos - January 2019 Part 2!

Hey, it's that time again.  Here's some more great rock music I've found floating around on YouTube!

First up is some really atmospheric prog rock/metal.  With some nice harmonies, ambient synths, and washed out guitars, this one gets my head banging the whole song, all while taking me on a unique journey.

Here's another one from the Neal Morse Band's upcoming album.  Here, we get to see Mike Portnoy do some lead vocals.  It's also a little heavier than the others, but it has the crew's expected melodic grooves and uplifting chorus.

Delain is a name I've seen around for a while, but never got to.  However, if this song is indicative of what they are, I've clearly been missing out!  Epic symphonic metal done very well!

More Dream Theater!  It definitely sounds like they're really bringing back the heaviness for this one, with some speedy licks, mood changes, and a nice, Hammond-y keyboard solo!  This is already sounding better than The Astonishing!

I know I've brought up Vega before on this blog, but their album can't be recommended enough!  Great 80s anthemic rock!

Let's wrap this up with some folk metal!  Granted, Tyr has always had a more progressive metal vibe to their epicness, but that doesn't make it any less awesome!!
